RHYNCHONELLIFORMEA (BRACHIOPODA) FROM THE DEVONIAN OF THE AMAZONAS, PARNAÍBA AND JATOBÁ BASINS: TAXONOMIC REVIEW AND PALEOENVIRONMENTAL AND PALEOBIOGEOGRAPHIC IMPLICATIONS
Resumen
The Amazonas, Parnaíba, and Jatobá basins are located in the north/northeast of Brazil and contain a significant occurrence of Devonian fossils. Despite this, taxonomic studies involving brachiopods in these basins are still scarce. In order to resolve this issue, we reviewed several specimens deposited in museum collections from Brazil and the USA. Here, we recognize different taxa in the aforementioned basins. In the Amazonas Basin, we recognized the taxa Katzeria hoeferi (Katzer, 1903) possibly first recognized here in the Ererê Formation), Parachonetes freitasi (Rathbun, 1878), Cupularostrum sp., Stringocephaceloidea indet, ?Mucrospirifer pedroanus (Rathbun, 1874), ?Anoplia sp. and Filispirifer sp. In the Parnaíba Basin, we identified Amphigenia sp., Cupularostrum sp., Filispirifer sp., Pustulatia sp., Terebratulida indet., Derbyina jamesiana (Rathbun, 1874) and Derbyina smithi (Derby, 1895). On the other hand, the Jatobá Basin has a low diversity brachiopod fauna, but we were able to identify the occurrences of Cupularostrum sp., Podolella sp., and ?Mucrospiriferidae indet. Based on these identifications, we made some paleobiogeographic considerations, recognizing that the migrations that took place between these basins were related to moments of global sea level rise, one of which coincided with the Choteč and Lower Kačák events. We also made paleoenvironmental considerations and concluded that the taxa occupied environments from the shoreface to the transitional offshore.
