About the Journal

Paleontologia em Destaque (Paleodest) is a publication of the Sociedade Brasileira de Paleontologia (SBP) and publishes original scientific and technical papers in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, in the form of abstracts, notes and academic papers. Paleodest is free of charge for SBP members.

It publishes a wide range of topics dealing directly and indirectly with paleontology, including taxonomy, anatomy, morphology, systematics, phylogeny, paleoecology, paleobiology, stratigraphic paleontology, taphonomy, paleobiogeography, education, curatorship, philosophy and history of paleontology, law and legal aspects, new techniques and methodologies, heritage, geoconservation, among others.

Starting from this year, 2021, it will be published in two annual volumes, both with DOI (Digital Object Identifier): the first volume will be published in the first semester with all abstracts presented at regional paleontology meetings, as the bulletin has been doing for almost 15 years (with single DOI for the volume); and the second volume will be published in the second semester with complete publications in the form of papers or peer-reviewed notes (with individual DOI for each note and article). In addition, it continues to be published as special issues focused on conference annals promoted by SBP, when requested by the organizing committees, such as the Simpósio Brasileiro de Paleovertebrados, Simpósio Brasileiro de Paleoinvertebrados, Simpósio Brasileiro de Paleobotanica e Palinologia, Congresso Brasileiro de Paleontologia, and others.

The divulgation of abstracts presented at the Regional Paleontology Meetings - PALEOs, with a broad spectrum of themes, is one of the great services of Paleodest, disseminating the research that has been carried out all over Brazil and in special, encouraging and providing a space for students and young researchers.

The new scope for publishing articles and notes will focus on themes and formats that are not contemplated in the scope of the Revista Brasileira de Paleontologia. Academic and/or technical articles will be published, focusing especially on education, history, philosophy, law and legal aspects, new study methods and techniques, preparation and conservation of fossils, field techniques, image acquisition techniques, exhibition curatorship, curatorship and documentation of scientific collections, museology, heritage, geoconservation, among others, as long as they are related to paleontology. Notes may include all of the above, plus taxonomic notes or notes on new taxon occurrences. Submissions of notes and original articles are received on a continual basis but are always published within the second volume of the year.
